The Starting
I started dreaming of having a business in some way or form in grad school when I took a class in entrepreneurship. This was around the time Twitter first came out and it was all about DISRUPTION! Smartphones were paving the way towards the future and startups were all the rage.
The class itself was about getting to an IPO and walking out with a nice deal, ready for your next venture. I imagined if I ever had a business, I would run it like that. But instead of that I run a one-person online life coaching business and I want to teach you how to build one in 2026.
The cool thing is, everything I’m going to teach you in this series isn’t strictly about a life coaching business. It’s about a creative online business, and a life coaching practice happens to be one.
What does that mean?
A creative online business is a business that doesn’t really have a standard mode of operation in people’s minds. Think of a restaurant. You can imagine how a restaurant might run, even if you don’t know the ins and outs of the restaurant industry. Think of a massage parlor. You can imagine how a massage parlor might become profitable.
But how does a “typical” life coaching business operate? How does a “typical” intuitive reader run their business? There are no standards here. On the good side this means that you are completely free because there are no rules, and on the bad side this means you have no standard to fall back to on how you can be successful.
We’ll get to more about that in future writings. For this writing I want to talk about the most important part of it all: starting.
Do yourself a favor and start right now.
The absolute most important thing you can do if you’re entertaining starting a business is, starting. I’ve talked to friends who want to start something for months and sometimes years and they don’t start. I talk to people in my cohort of a training we do for entrepreneurship and some of them still didn’t start.
Starting has no condition. There is no reason why you can’t start today. But I’m sure you know this, because everyone knows obviously you need to start. Since I want to teach you something, let’s talk about WHY people find it so hard to start.
